Project Description: Journalism in the Digital Age

Traditional journalism delivered by Old Media in forms of newspaper, TV and radio have changed dramatically since the Internet became popular in the late 1990's. Propelled by new technologies and social media, today's news outlets can deliver media-rich, personalized news and interactive content to a worldwide audience. At the same time, with ease of disseminating information and the lack of authenticity and ethical standards, many are concerned about safeguarding basic journalistic principles. This project will evaluate the major trends in journalism in the digital age. How are the features of New Media contributing or impacting to the news which we receive today? How does interactive media and social platforms, such as Twitter and discussion forums, change the way we receive and understand about the news and subject? What is more important, readership or revenue? How does the traditional news publishers reinvent their business strategies to capture and retain readership and revenue? Finally, what are the future trends of journalism and their delivery format?
